Cities are a key player in the Energy Transition process. Due to this fact, a thematic partnership on energy transition has been set up, gathering the Member States, cities, the European Commission and other stakeholders in the frame of the Urban Agenda for the EU. The cities coordinating the partnership (London, Gdansk, Roeselare) will introduce a set of concrete actions aiming at supporting urban initiatives on energy transition, through better laws, easier access to funding and knowledge sharing. The results of the project will open new pathways and create new tools for all the European cities to tackle this upcoming transition.

The Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) Initiative set up by the European Commission provides urban areas throughout Europe with resources to test new and unproven solutions to address urban challenges. Three innovative energy transition projects, selected in the framework of the first Call for Proposals, will be showcased: the Fossil Free Energy Districts (FED) in Gothenburg, the Co-Responsibility in District Energy Efficiency & Sustainability (CoRDEES) in Paris and the Innovative local public-private-citizen partnership for energy governance (Vilawatt) in Viladecans.
